How the NHRA Wally Trophy Found a Home in Wicked Quick’s Design Shop

In 2003, after leaving his Senior Designer post at Nike and being selected to design the new Ford Racing logo, Wicked Quick founder, Tarran Pitschka, began dreaming of a lifestyle apparel brand that celebrated a singular pursuit: the quest for speed. Trackside one racing weekend, Wicked Quick was officially born.

Mr. Wicked Quick Clicks with a Driver Who’s Wicked Quick

Through his creative work for Ford Racing, Pitschka toured national racing tracks, with the chance to meet many drivers. Racers. When he met NHRA Funny Car champion and driver Tony Pedregon, “we just clicked.” Pitschka admired Pedregon’s passion for racing and sense of humor and Pedregon was an immediate, enthusiastic fan—and wearer—of the Wicked Quick brand.

A Wicked Quick-Sponsored Car Wins the Wally

In 2009, Pedregon was already a two-time NHRA Funny Car Champion. By then, his support of Wicked Quick had grown into a friendship with Pitschka, and the two decided it was time for a Wicked Quick-sponsored car. The timing proved auspicious. At the Lucas Oil Nationals in Brainerd, Minnesota, Pedregon edged out all national competitors to win the Wally.

Wally Welcomed at Wicked Quick

Named after former NHRA president Wally Parks, the Wally stands 18 inches high and weighs 12 pounds. You probably don’t see many Wally trophies outside of a team’s garage. But one now stands in the Wicked Quick design studio, looking out over apparel designers and stacks of tee samples. Here it still inspires those who design for Wicked Quick—a reminder that anything is possible when passionate minds meet.
